Leah (Set 41) reflects on her time at Norland so far and how invaluable the blend of theory and practice has been for her placements.

“I completed my Level 3 in Childcare and Education at college which included placements in schools and nurseries. During this time, I would also babysit and nanny for families, and I decided that being a nanny was what I wanted to continue doing. I had heard of Norland and looked into it in more depth, exploring what the course included. I also watched a TV programme about Norland and after that, I decided that Norland was the place I wanted to study childcare further.”

“I wanted to come to Norland instead of a larger university as I had heard that it was like a family and I couldn’t agree more. The staff are so friendly, and all know you by your name and are always there to help whenever you need.”

“Being at Norland compared to another university is amazing because you are studying with others that all have the same interest and passion as you. I am so happy I chose to come to Norland. I have had so many opportunities that I would not have had if I didn’t come to Norland.

“Being at Norland has helped me grow in confidence. I feel so honoured to be able to wear the Norland uniform and could not imagine studying childcare anywhere else. Norland has brought out the best of me and I feel that being at Norland will bring the best out of you and make you the best practitioner you can be.

“I do not feel like I missed out on anything by coming to Norland instead of going to a traditional university. In fact, I feel that I have gained so much more than I could have at another university. In one week at Norland, I learn all about children’s development whilst developing my sewing and cooking skills. I don’t think that there is another university where you have such a variety of things to learn and complete.

“The course is very well structured and organised; you know what is expected of you and I have loved every second of it so far. Being at Norland has made me a more confident person and I feel that it will make me the best nanny I can possibly be in my future job. Once I have graduated from Norland, I plan on staying in the UK to nanny for a family. There are so many opportunities that Norland provides you with. It gives you worldwide opportunities that you would not get from another university. Wherever I choose to work, I will always be proud to have the title of Norland Nanny.

“I have completed many placements during my time so far. These included nurseries, infant schools, one week on a hospital maternity ward, and daily and residential placements with a family. The one placement that has stood out for me so far was my residential placement. The family were so welcoming, and the children were such a pleasure to look after. During this placement, I had lots of opportunities to put my Norland training into practice as I cooked for the family as well as sewing the children’s name labels into their school uniform. I also developed my activity planning for all ages. The placements that you do at Norland help you develop professionally as well as give you the opportunity to work with children of all ages.

“If you want to study childcare further and want the best training possible, I highly recommend coming to Norland. It provides you with opportunities and skills that you may not receive at other universities.

“As well as the training we get at Norland, it also provides you with friends for life! Whilst being at Norland, I have made incredible friends and I think this is due to Norland being such a close community of people that all have the same interests as you. Coming to Norland has been the best decision I have made in my life so far, and I am so proud to be able to wear the uniform and represent such a prestigious college!”
