Third-year student Lucy (Set 42) reflects on her journey to Norland, the tight-knit community students experience and how the balance between theory and practice allows students to flourish and develop as early years professionals.

“It became very clear to me very quickly when I was doing research with my family that Norland was the best of the best and the standard of education and knowledge that I would receive from Norland would be above anything else I could find.”

“Every single placement experience I’ve had has been absolutely incredible. The range of placements you’re able to get at Norland are massive from forest school to special educational facilities, to families, live-in and live-out. On every single one of those placements I feel I’ve learned so much and developed so much as a childcare professional.”

“What I love about what I do really comes down to making a difference. I love to make a difference in children’s lives and Norland allows me to do that.”

Please note: when Lucy says “last year there were six jobs for every Norlander”, she means that there were six permanent jobs for every Norlander seeking one through the Norland Agency in 2019/20. Also, when Lucy says “placements make up 50% of the course”, it’s actually just under half of the course.
