Emma Maskell to speak at Westminster Higher Education Forum

Emma Maskell, Head of Student and Academic Services, will join a panel to discuss higher education quality and assessment at the Next steps for the Teaching Excellence Framework conference.
On Tuesday 21 November, Emma Maskell, Head of Student and Academic Services, will join a panel at the online Westminster Higher Education Forum conference, Next steps for the Teaching Excellence Framework. The event will explore the future of quality assurance in higher education, bringing together leaders, policymakers and regulators to discuss how to assess and enhance education standards across England’s higher education institutions.
Emma will join a distinguished panel for the session titled ‘Developing institutional narratives – evidencing excellence, improvement, and impact’ alongside sector leaders including Professor Julian Chaudhuri, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) at the University of Bath and James Dunphy, Director of Educational Excellence at Advance HE.
Central to the panel will be a discussion on the evolving role of the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF). This follows the Office for Students’ (OfS) recent consultation on a revised TEF model and its development of a new approach to assessing teaching quality and standards.
In her contribution, Emma will share insights on how proposed reforms – including a shift towards continuous, embedded quality assessment – could impact specialist institutions like Norland. She will also present Norland’s perspective on the journey to TEF Gold and how Norland is evolving approaches to evidencing excellence, innovation and impact in response to an ever-changing regulatory landscape. The ongoing challenges that come with being a small and specialist institution when it comes to evidencing impact in a data led quality system will also be discussed, as well as strategies to help overcome these.
The conference promises to be a key moment for discussion on how higher education providers can maintain and enhance teaching quality and standards, ensuring students receive the best possible experience. We are proud that Emma will represent Norland, sharing valuable insights and helping to shape the future of educational excellence.
