Alice and Amy fundraise for their volunteering trip
In 2025, second-year students Alice and Amy are setting off on a three week trip to volunteer supporting children in deprived areas in Africa with educational support.
Together, Alice and Amy wish to volunteer with families, supporting children through sports, activities such as dance and games, and languages. The trip, organised through Worldpackers, will be a three week volunteering opportunity which could involve working in orphanages, primary schools and nurseries.
Amy commented, “The opportunity to contribute to the children’s happiness and development means everything to us, and we are eager to apply the skills we’ve gained at Norland to offer the best support possible.”
Alice added, “This journey will truly open our eyes to the world and highlight the importance of making a difference, no matter how small.”
To fundraise for their trip, Alice and Amy successfully climbed Scafell Pike on 18 December 2024. This challenging climb, on England’s highest mountain, is part of a series of fundraisers the students have organised including fun runs, hikes and competitions in order to fundraise for their volunteering.
“We’re really excited about the challenge, as it’s a significant step up from our climb of Pen y Fan last year. At 3,209 feet, Scafell Pike is going to push us to our limits, especially with the added challenge of doing it in the middle of December!”
“It was a great challenge. Facing waterfalls, freezing temperatures, 40mph winds and the dark afternoon, we pushed through and achieved the summit”.
Going into the new year, Alice and Amy will be undertaking further activities to fundraise for their trip.
