16 February 2026

Norland students and staff explored the methodology, challenges and learning behind research currently being conducted by the Norland Educare Research Centre for Emotion Coaching UK.
On 13 February, Norland hosted a research webinar, offering students and staff an insight into the research process conducted for an Emotion Coaching UK project. The research examines the relationship between emotion coaching and practitioner perception of outcomes, barriers and facilitators.
Dr Rimsha Taqdees, Research Assistant at Norland, and Emma Smith, volunteer Research Assistant and Student Support Officer, provided attendees with an overview of the research process undertaken to date. They highlighted not only what has been learned so far, but also the realities and challenges of applied qualitative research in practice. Key stages of the project were discussed, including the development of the literature review, ethical considerations, and the initial stages of data analysis.
Coding and interpreting practitioner reflections and the complexities and challenges of this data were shared, as well as decisions made to address these. The webinar concluded with an outline of the project’s next steps and explored how ongoing reflections will continue to inform analysis as the research progresses.
The session gave students and staff a candid insight into the realities of applied research processes that underpin meaningful findings.
