This research project was a collaboration between Norland College and the Early Childhood Research Group, Anglia Ruskin University

Early diagnosis of autism, also known as autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a lifelong neurodevelopmental condition. Early diagnosis provides an opportunity to support autistic children to enhance their potential, strengths and capacities. Yet there is limited knowledge and understanding of autism, especially among children aged under four years.

A literature review was followed by the design of the First Steps – An Early Autism Family Support Programme in collaboration with therapists, autism experts, and parents of children with autism. The support programme was then piloted and revised.  The project was initiated by Norland with the Transforming Autism Project (TAP) and the programme was licenced to TAP for implementation.
