Microsoft Teams – Collaborating with other students
Chatting with other students
Teams Chat is the quickest way to communicate with classmates.

- Select Chat.
- Select New Chat.
- Search for the student’s name.
- Type your message and select Send.
Create a group chat
- Select New Chat.
- Add multiple students.

Group chats are useful for:
- Asking quick questions
- Sharing updates
- Planning study sessions
- Staying in touch during placements or projects
Teams also allows you to start audio or video calls directly from a chat.
Organising Online Study Sessions
Students can create and host their own Teams meetings.
Schedule a meeting
- Open Calendar in Teams.
- Select New Meeting.
- Add a title, date and time.
- Invite students by entering their names or email addresses.
- Select Send.
Everyone invited will receive a meeting invitation with a link to join.
This can be useful for:
- Study groups
- Assignment discussions
- Placement preparation
- Peer support meetings
Sharing Files and Collaborating
Teams makes it easy to share documents with other students.
Share a file
- Open a chat or Team.
- Select the Attach (paperclip) icon.
- Choose your file.
- Select Send.
Shared files can be viewed and worked on by group members, helping everyone stay up to date.
Create your own Team
For longer-term projects or study groups, you may want to create your own Team.
A Team provides a dedicated space where members can:
- Share files
- Hold conversations
- Schedule meetings
- Collaborate on work together
This can be more organised than a group chat when working with the same people over a longer period.
