Learning online at Norland
Online learning gives you flexibility in how and when you engage with your studies.
Moodle provides access to the resources, activities and information you need throughout your course, helping you engage with learning both independently and collaboratively.
The way your learning is structured may vary between courses, modules and programmes, but Moodle will be one of the main places where you access and complete learning activities.
Essential Technology
To participate fully in your programme, you should have access to:
- A reliable computer – A laptop or desktop computer suitable for studying, researching, writing assignments, and accessing online learning resources.
- A stable internet connection – Reliable internet access will allow you to engage consistently with online learning activities and university systems.
- A webcam and microphone – These may be needed for online meetings with your academic tutor.
- A suitable web browser – To access Moodle effectively, we would recommend using either Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome, as these are most compatible.
Accessing Your Learning Materials
Your tutors will use Moodle to provide learning materials, activities, assessment information and course updates.
You may find that resources become available at different points throughout your course rather than all at once. This helps ensure that materials are presented when they are most relevant to your learning.
Each course area may be organised differently, so take some time to familiarise yourself with the structure and information available within your courses.
Engaging with Online Learning Activities
Learning in Moodle is more than simply reading resources. Depending on your course, you may be asked to participate in a range of online activities designed to support your learning and encourage engagement with ideas and perspectives.
These activities may include:
- Moodle forums
- Quizzes and knowledge checks
- Reflective activities
- Collaborative boards
- Group tasks and discussions
- Interactive learning resources
Your tutor will explain which activities are required and how they contribute to your learning.
Managing Your Learning
Online learning often requires you to manage your own study time and workload. Planning dedicated time for study can help you engage with learning materials, complete activities and prepare for assessments.
You may find it helpful to review course requirements and upcoming deadlines regularly so that you can plan your workload and avoid leaving activities until the last minute.
Getting Help
If you need support using Moodle, start by exploring the guidance available on the Study Hub and Moodle’s own student guides.
If you experience technical difficulties accessing Moodle or a learning activity, contact the appropriate support service or member of staff for assistance.
