Biography

Tamsin joined Norland as Principal Lecturer in Early Years in 2023. She is an author, consultant and lecturer who is passionate about young children’s learning and development and fascinated by how very young children think. She has a keen interest in the different ways that children learn and how adults can support them. She is particularly interested in schematic play, active learning, promoting positive behaviour and children’s emotional development.

Tamsin’s dissertation for her master’s degree was entitled: “Is there a place for love in an early years setting?” and her work around developing a loving pedagogy has popularised this term as she continues to research how adults can develop a loving pedagogy in homes, schools and settings. In addition, Tamsin’s keen interest in supporting children’s behaviour and self-regulation skills is demonstrated in two of her books: Nurturing Self-Regulation in Early Childhood and Supporting Behaviour and Emotions in the Early Years. This research interest helped her to previously lead the behaviour specialism for the primary PGCE at Bath Spa University, write the self-regulation modules on Norland’s undergraduate degree, and design and create the content and materials for the supporting behaviour specialist strand across Norland’s master’s degree. She has written several other books aimed at educators and enjoys discussing putting theory into practice.

Tamsin believes that all children deserve adults who are loving, inspiring, dynamic, reflective and passionate about their learning and development. When children have the very best start in their early years, they adopt positive dispositions and attitudes to learning. When children are placed at the heart of professional practice they will thrive and grow.
