Biography
Kate is an Early Years Lecturer who is passionate about supporting students to engage in high-quality, intentional, play-based practice with young children. After completing a BSc in Psychology and a PGCE, she began her career as a primary school teacher in a reception class. She has since worked in schools and nursery settings across the UK and in Mexico City, both as a teacher and as a senior leader at assistant/deputy head level.
Kate spent over seven years working as an Early Years Advisor for Durham County Council, where she supported practitioners in schools, nurseries and children’s centres to deliver the best possible outcomes for children. In this role, she authored and co-authored documents based on research in reception and mixed-age classes.
Kate completed her master’s degree in early years education in 2009. She is an accredited Professional Development Lead with the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics and is particularly interested in making this area of learning joyful for children and practitioners.
