Biography

Dee Burn joined Norland in January 2019. Dee is responsible for leading Norland’s marketing, student recruitment and brand management activities. She oversees all media relations and external communications, takes a strategic role in protecting and managing Norland’s brand and reputation, and takes overall responsibility for all of Norland’s externally-facing channels including the website, social media, student recruitment events and print materials.

Dee has almost 25 years of marketing and communications experience in the higher education sector. She has worked as a marketing consultant with over 30 universities in the UK, US and Australia on projects as wide-ranging as digital marketing infrastructure, the recruitment of international PhD students, improving the graduation ceremony experience for graduands and several complex digital projects.

Dee was head of marketing and communications at the University of London and prior to this she work in marketing and communications, alumni and fundraising management roles across the university. She led the launch of the national festival of the humanities (Being Human) supported by the Arts and Humanities Research Council and the British Academy and headed up the university’s participation in the Bloomsbury Festival alongside partners such as the British Museum, British Library, UCL and other world-leading higher education and research institutions. Dee project managed significant digital projects including websites, research applications and launched the university’s iTunesU and YouTube platforms as an early adopter. She was elected as a member of the highly respected inaugural Aurora programme which champions future women leaders in higher education.

Before joining the University of London, Dee managed UK student support services for one of the largest study abroad centres in the US: Arcadia University’s Center for Education Abroad (now The College of Global Studies). Dee’s first role after graduating was as an English Foreign Language teacher in Akita, Japan.

Dee is acting co-chair of the national Independent Higher Education Recruitment and Admissions Network, and was previously co-chair of the Marketing and Student Recruitment Network from 2020 until 2024. She is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) and holds a CIM Diploma in Marketing. She has an MA in Organisations and Change (City, University of London) and a BA in English (Aberystwyth University). During her undergraduate studies, Dee spent a semester studying at Penn State University, Pennsylvania, USA.
