Amanda Wilkinson

Biography

Amanda has worked in education for the past 20 years. Her BSc degree in Psychology and Mathematics explored early years development and related environmental factors. She then trained and worked as an Early Years and Primary Teacher, before becoming a school leader and working across counties to support schools in the development of their teaching and learning. During this time, Amanda began working in higher education as a Teacher Educator (training new and practicing teachers) and has now been working in higher education for 15 years. 

Amanda’s passion has always been, and continues to be, equitable access and success in education at all levels and for all individuals. This passion has driven her role developments and research throughout her career in higher education. Her research has focused on a breadth of aspects of inclusion, such as belonging, transitions, accessible teaching, learning, assessment and feedback.   

Prior to joining Norland, Amanda was Director of Education for Metanoia Institute, a leading provider of psychotherapy education in the UK. Before that, she worked as an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Lead at UWE Bristol, sitting on the EDI Strategic Board for the university, navigating extremely complex EDI issues with colleagues from across UWE Bristol. 

Amanda’s current research focuses on the role of higher education institutions and wider society on practice and policy in higher education, including how this backdrop impacts on the retention and success of students as they arrive and progress through higher education.
