Tuition fees and other study costs – 2022/23

Payment can be made by direct bank transfer, debit/credit card, cheque or via Direct Debit instalments. Termly tuition fees are invoiced in approximately equal amounts and are due immediately on the first day of each term, unless collected by Direct Debit.

Termly fees collected by Direct Debit are due on or around 1 October, 1 February and 1 May. You can choose to pay your termly fees by Direct Debit over eight instalments across the academic year to help spread the cost. These are due on or around 1 October, 1 November, 1 December, 1 February, 1 March, 1 April, 1 May and 1 June.

£300 – this non-refundable fee is charged once only and is due on the first day of your first term. The charge covers the cost of all current and future bespoke individual support (in person and via social media), advice and help from the Norland Agency, support via the Norland Alumni, access to Agency events, refresher courses and drop in sessions. It has been included in the fees summary table above. Note: the fee is subject to annual review and may increase by up to 5% or the Consumer Price Index (if higher) each year, for future students.

Approximately £1,000 – the total cost of the Norland uniform, which should cover your three years of training at Norland. You will receive further information about ordering the uniform and a price list once you have been offered a place.

Approximately £120 – you will be required to provide your own sewing kit at a cost of approximately £60. In addition, you will need to purchase materials of your choice for each sewing project and the cost of this will equate to approximately £60 over the three years.

Approximately £78 – you must complete a DBS check, which currently costs £52. The recommended annual update service then costs £13 per year for your remaining two years of study, a total of £78 for your time at Norland. Without the update service an additional £52 DBS check will be required at the beginning of the Newly Qualified Nanny (NQN) year.

If you are a non-UK based student, you must obtain a police certificate or certificate of good conduct from that country as well as completing the DBS application at the start of your course. Norland offers you the opportunity to learn Spanish through optional lessons at a cost of £280 per year and an optional Makaton course at £160 per year.

Approximately £300 per year for placement travel across the three years. Depending on your year of study, the travel cost to attend your placements will vary. We try to use Bath-based placements as much as possible except for residential or live-in placements which require a return journey. If your placement is located more than 8 miles from our Oldfield Park campus in Bath, Norland will make a contribution towards your additional travel expenses of £4 per return journey.

Norland ID cards are used for accessing the college buildings, capturing attendance, using printing services and borrowing learning resources from the library.

ID cards are initially created in Welcome Week and one replacement card can be issued free of charge should the first ID card be lost or stolen.

If misplaced or damaged during the duration of the course, further replacements can be allocated at a cost of £6 for each new replacement.

International students must also pay to apply for a Student visa from outside the UK, which currently costs £363, and a mandatory immigration health surcharge to access the National Health Service (NHS), the current rate for which is £470 per year. If you don’t have UK qualifications, you’ll need to arrange for the UK ENIC to confirm your qualifications and there is a charge for this service.

Norland has a very low occurrence of students leaving our course, and we commit to doing everything possible to ensure our students succeed and cope well with the challenges of living away from home, often for the first time. We are properly resourced to support all aspects of our students throughout their degree and diploma training, and our pastoral care is particularly strong.

However, due to unforeseen events and situations students sometimes choose to leave Norland. If you decide to leave, it is important to note that tuition fees remain due for the current term. It is important to ensure Norland is properly resourced to offer the very best student and Newly Qualified Nanny (NQN) experience, as well as life-long support for our Norlanders. It is therefore critical that fees are able to reflect this commitment, and consequently our core tuition fees are reviewed annually and set (and published on our website) at least one year in advance, and may ordinarily increase by up to 5% each year. However, should the official Consumer Price Index (CPI) exceed 5% then fees may increase by up to CPI. The level of any increase is set with reference to student affordability, anticipated inflationary pressure and necessary course enhancement. To provide transparency on possible future course fees, illustrative examples are provided in the table below.
