Natasha (Set 29) graduated from Norland in 2009 and has worked as a nanny and now works for one of the UK’s leading providers of childcare and early years education.

“While studying my Level 2 in childcare I was introduced to Norland and was in complete awe of the training and everything it encompassed. My parents were extremely supportive of my training and supported my choice. I worked as a nanny for two families after completing my training. In 2013, a chain of nurseries advertised for a manager for a small group of their nannies and to help grow a new sister company. When I saw the advert, I was intrigued.”

“I think Norland sets out a culture of quality that is not there within other training providers. Even down to how you present yourself within your uniform. This may be a pain for students, and they may wonder why they have to do it, but within their professional career, they will have a standard that is within them that may not be within their peers.

“During one of my placements at Norland I assisted at a children’s Sure Start centre helping children and their families. This experience always stayed with me. During my last role as a nanny, I really enjoyed helping nannies and new mothers using the knowledge and experience I gained over the years. When I saw the advert, I had been thinking about how I could use the enjoyment I had found helping others and thought I could ‘give it a go’. I never thought that two years later I would be supporting a team of 30 staff and over 400 families.

“I believe Norland gave me a culture that has stayed with me, a culture that our children and families deserve the best. This has stayed with me and I am very lucky to now work for a company that has the same culture.

“It’s also about your ambition and drive. If you want to be the best you have to put the work in. An Olympic gold medallist doesn’t win by taking the easy option. If you have chosen to work with children as a career you have a passion. Why not enhance that passion while being proud of being part of something a little different?

“You work very hard while studying. I remember we were in college one week and out on placement the next, while others studying a similar course elsewhere did not have to do that. However, it gave you an insight into real life and that working hard was normal. The foundation of quality that is ‘instilled’ in you makes the Norland experience unique. It is the culture that children and families deserve the best.”
